Since the season has started, time to start a thread.

Great win by the Pack last night over Arizona. I figured State would surprise some teams this year, but I didn't see that one coming.
Heels will be good with Berry, Maye, and Williams returning, as well as some good freshmen.
Duke is the team to beat. Tons of new talent, and an experienced Grayson Allen, make them a really tough out. This is the best Duke team I've seen in years. Not happy to see football almost over, but college basketball has always been my favorite.

Nice analysis, Gunny, & agree 100%. Hate to see football coming to an end. Always enjoy watching ACC hoops though, especially around tourney time.

State's W over the Cats....didn't expect that one & big win for the Pack.

Heels & Devils - reload & business as usual.

Carolina threw up all over themselves in the game against Sparty Sunday night. Couldn't buy a basket. All teams have games like that from time to time; hope it's the last time the Heels do. Incredible comeback by the Devils.

Duke came back twice and they will only get better. I see why K convinced Bagley to skip his senior year of high school because without him Duke would have had two losses. K should thank Mr. Bagley LOL!!!

They must have thrown up all over Bill Walton. He was cutting into them pretty good when he was actually commenting on the game...:) Tough shooting night for the Heels but it's just one game and it's early.

    Bagley's numbers looked like this against TX & FL;

    Gators - 30 pts & 15 boards, 9 of 10 FTs, played 39 mins

    Horns - 34 pts & 15 boards, 9 of 13 FTs, played 38 mins

OK numbers I guess, needs to work on his conditioning a little, play 40 every game...(kiddin') ...dominating performance by a 1-man wrecking crew.

Oh, yeah, Walton is NOT a Carolina fan. He even ripped them in the Arkansas game when he made a comment about the Heels being allowed to "shuffle their feet" without a whistle. He made a dig at them at every opportunity during the MSU game. I don't care who he pulls for,but he's almost as annoying at Dickie V with all his chatter that has nothing to do with the game.

Without Bagley Duke is probably sweet sixteen. With Bagley, Natty!!!
I don't know who gets on my nerves more Walton or Duke Vitale?

They both suck, T!!! I turned off the tv audio and bought my radio down to listen to Jones Angel for the Catolina/Arkansas game. Hate that because the radio is ahead of the TV, but it's preferable to listening to Vitale or Walton!

Yeah Duke looks like a Natty team, barring injuries.

Nice W by the Tar Heels. Luke Maye continues to impress, nice quickness on the spin move to the basket, 5th time he's scored at least 20....nice story. Heels took care of business as expected at home. ACC dominating the B-10.

I'm predicting Duke will go undefeated at home and probably lose at ND or Miami or both. I cant see the heels beating them, but I hope so. I stopped watching the Indiana/Duke game and turned to Miami/Minn.

Agree, B. That game, especially the first half, was a complete 180 (thankfully!) from their disaster against MSU. The concerning thing is that when Roy put the subs in, their lead went from 28 down to 19 in the blink of an eye. Roy can't run Berry , Williams, and Maye into the ground. Speaking of ground, why did Berry's rear end seem to land on it all night? The guy looked like he was playing on a slip n slide the entire game. If he gets injured, the Heels are cooked. Good to see Maye back to scoring and defending.

Hope ND can beat Duke! I don't see the Heels beating them either, unless Duke just has a terrible night on the same night the Heels are hot.

Duke - gonna be hard to beat as long as they're playing like they can. Don't think other teams can stop Bagley. He may stop himself once in a blue moon, (off night, etc.), but aside from that, he'll get his numbers & the Devils will win. Some potential challenges on the road, teams up their play in the tourneys, but they should roll aside from that.

  • StunGunn Dec 3, 2017

Carolina plays Tulane in an hour - will be a tough game.

B & T - agree that Duke is the team to beat this season. They clearly have the most talent in the ACC. That said, I saw MSU dismantle Carolina and then 'Dame. If Duke and MSU play again, (and I hope they do!) I like MSU's toughness and experience. This is a very, very good Sparty team.

Don't forget about FSU. They destroyed UF. They always had a lot of athletes. Think they beat Duke a few times. Gunny I'm not betting five pennies on MSU if they were to meet Duke again.

Yeah, FSU has been good the past few years. I think Bacon left for the NBA, and I'm not sure how solid the roster is. Always liked Leonard Hamilton. Duke is talented and tough, and the team to beat in the ACC. I like MSU's toughness and experience.

Don't know about Duke, but Carolina was still good in '83, a year after they won Dean's first Natty. I don't know if anyone expected the Cardiac Pack to win it all, especially against Phi Slama Jama, but you certainly make a great point, B! Touche!

Hey T! Christmas came early! BC (of all schools) beat Duke today! Was a heck of a game. I kept waiting for Duke go to on a run, but whenever they did, BC had answers. Chatman, Robinson, and Bowen were beasts. BC played touch ball, and weren't intimidated at all by Duke. Bowen used to play football, and he considered playing in college. He isn't big, but he is tough.

Totally agree. Survive and advance! Had a friend who had a ritual during State's incredible run: he and his buddies would buy those marshmallow Peeps. They'd bite the heads off before every game. Did it all the way up to and including the championship game. Whatever works, right!

I understand. During my playing days, I was about as sooperstishus as it gets. I would quote Crash Davis on that but it's not important. Ex...wearing the same socks, same on deck routine, pregame ritual, etc. If it works, stick with it.....:)

Ky Bowen is a beast and really took it to Duke. Robinson too. Duke has the one-and-dones, but they're freshmen and they make freshmen mistakes, like Duval. I believe it was also Duval who grabbed the jersey of the BC player and then pushed him, earning him a flagrant-1.

    Not sure about hockey players but baseball players are very superstitious. Other examples as follows;

Jumping over the line when running on & off the field (some players won't step on the line as they consider it bad luck), didn't use batting gloves so before every plate appearance I would grab a handful of dirt & rub it on the bat handle (hated batting gloves for some reason), walking around the umpire while approaching the batter's box versus crossing the plate, same number of dry swings before an AB, same batting helmet every AB, not letting bats get crossed (bad luck), etc....lol.... wacky stuff. Just some stuff I know of.

I think BC plays Columbia, or some team like that. I can see them losing their next game due to the win over Duke. Hope not, but can see it happening. BC would have beaten a lot of teams, playing like they did against Duke. Bowman and Robinson can ball.

What a breath of fresh air coming across this forum post! I've been gone for a long time...can't even remember the last time I posted here. I see the UNC and Duke forums are still full of children.

This was a nice diamond in the rough, so to speak, to find.

RE: the recent string of games.

BC was amazing when they played Duke. When Duke went on that last run, I figured that was it...they had come back, AGAIN, to win. WRONG! Those boys can shoot! My goodness!

Hopefully Duke can come back and play like I know they can. Bagley and Carter are both really good...but Bagley...sheesh that guy is good!! If Duke plans to make a deep run they have got to fix their defensive woes...it seems they can lock down, but only for short periods of time. They have got to figure out how to play defense better down the stretch.

Good win yesterday by UNC over TN. It was close, but somewhat expected after not playing for a while. It will be interesting to see how Duke rebounds...

I won't like: I didn't shed any tears when BC - of all teams - beat Duke. Bowen, Robinson, and Chatman can ball! I watched that game only because there was nothing else on. I thought Duke would slaughter BC. If BC plays like that, they'll beat a lot of teams, Carolina included. Speaking of the Heels, they played poorly in the first half, and when they start a game like that, they usually lose. They don't seem to play well after a break, and playing in a hostile environment, against a Rick Barnes coached team looked like a recipe for disaster. Credit the maturity of Berry and toughness of Luke Maye, and the 3-point shooting of Williams.

So glad you found us over here. Everyone is great - Bishop, Toddler, Max - you'll really enjoy their posts.
