Real Madrid, Chelsea to play in Charlotte this summer

Posted March 19, 2024 10:50 a.m. EDT

Bank of America Stadium will host an international friendly soccer match between Real Madrid CF and Chelsea FC on August 6.

Ticket will be available to the general public beginning on March 27.

“Since Tepper Sports & Entertainment’s investment to bring Major League Soccer to Charlotte, the city’s international footprint in the world’s game has exploded,” said Charlotte FC President Joe LaBue. “We couldn’t be more excited to welcome the Soccer Champions Tour to Uptown Charlotte this summer. One of our core objectives will always be about growing the game and Charlotte’s reputation as a soccer city. Real Madrid and Chelsea are undeniably two of the most recognizable brands in the world with Charlotte serving as center stage on August 6."

Real Madrid, Europe’s winningest team with 14 Champions League titles, will play in Charlotte for the first time. Led by international superstars Vinicius Junior, Jude Bellingham and Luka Modric, Los Blancos are currently on pace to win their 36th La Liga title this season, a record mark in the Spanish topflight.

Chelsea, the two-time Champions League winners and six-time Premier League/First Division champions, returns to Bank of America Stadium for the second time in three years. Charlotte FC defeated the Blues 5-3 on penalty kicks during CLTFC’s inaugural season. The 2024 Carabao Cup runners-up are led by English starlet Cole Palmer and World Cup Champion Enzo Fernandez.

“Bank of America Stadium will host the biggest summer of soccer our city has ever seen,” said Tepper Sports & Entertainment Chief Venues Officer Caroline Wright. “We continue to prove our ability to attract world-class soccer events and draw huge crowds at the venue. The addition of the Soccer Champions Tour to our schedule is further proof that Charlotte is a desirable location for some of the most prestigious events.”

Soccer Champions Tour brings together the world’s most iconic clubs for annual fixtures in major cities across North America. Created by the global investment firm Sixth Street to empower partner clubs to tap into the increasing demand for the sport in the United States, the summer series delivers thrilling matches at the country’s leading venues. Soccer Champions Tour partners with the global premium experiences company, Legends, and leading sports and live entertainment company, AEG, to curate the most in-demand matches across world football to inspire new and long-time supporters alike.
