Steve Smith headlines 2024 NC Sports Hall of Fame class

While Steve Smith waits to hear his name called for the Pro Football Hall of Fame, the former Carolina Panthers wide receiver will join another elite group: the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame.
Smith highlights an 11-member class for 2024 announced Tuesday that includes Jim Nantz and Randolph Childress.
The induction ceremony will move to Charlotte from Raleigh next year and will take place on May 10.
The 2024 North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame class includes:
Randolph Childress: Wake Forest basketball player from 1991-1995, ACC Male Athlete of the Year in 1995 and ACC Tournament MVP in 1995.
Shelia Ford Duncan: UNC Asheville women's basketball player, NAIA National Player of the Year in 1984 and a part of the 1984 NAIA national championship team.
Caroline Lind: Greensboro native and Olympic gold medalist in rowing in 2008 and 2012.
Bob McKillop: Davidson basketball coach from 1989-2022 with 23 conference championships, 10 NCAA Tournament appearances and 634 career wins.
Jim Nantz: Charlotte native and CBS sports broadcaster since 1985, five-time National Sportscaster of the Year, lead anchor on CBS's golf telecasts and was lead play-by-play announcer for CBS's college basketball for 32 years.
Pettis Norman: Charlotte native, NFL tight end for the Dallas Cowboys and San Diego Chargers from 1962-1973.
Shea Ralph: Fayetteville native, averaged 39.1 points per game in 1995 as a junior at Terry Sanford High School, NCAA champion and Final Four MVP for UConn in 2000.
Don Skakle: UNC men's tennis coach for 22 years before unexpected death in 1980, won 16 ACC championships as a coach and a record of 60-1 as a player at UNC.
Steve Smith: NFL wide receiver for the Carolina Panthers and Baltimore Ravens from 2001-2016, Panthers all-time leading receiver in touchdowns, receptions and yards and made five Pro Bowls.
Marilyn "Que" Tucker: Commissioner of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association, member of the Mars Hill College Athletic Hall of Fame, former women's basketball assistant coach for NC State.
Ron Wellman: Wake Forest athletic director from 1992-2019, Collegiate Athletic Director of the Year in 2008.
