Charlotte, N.C. — UNC Charlotte announced Friday that another of its football games will be postponed due to a number of COVID-19 cases among the football team.
The school announced on its website that a cluster of seven cases involving student-athletes and staff means its game Saturday with Middle Tennessee State has been postponed. No new makeup date has been announced.
It's the fourth time this season a football game has been canceled or postponed due to a COVID-19 outbreak. The game with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on Sept. 19 was canceled. A game the following week with Georgia State was postponed. A new date has not been announced for that game.
The Florida International game, which was going to be UNCC's home opener, was moved from Oct. 17 to Dec. 5, according to the school's website.
"The positive cases were discovered through self-reporting of symptoms by individuals in the Niner Health Check and regular testing required by Conference USA," UNCC officials said in a statement on its website. "The individuals are in isolation with proper medical care, and the University's contact tracing team is currently notifying any affected members of the UNC Charlotte community to begin quarantine."
