Canes sign Lucas Wallmark to two-year deal

Posted July 12, 2018 7:46 p.m. EDT

— Don Waddell, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has agreed to terms with forward Lucas Wallmark on a two-year contract. Wallmark’s contract is a two-way deal in 2018-19 and a one-way deal in 2019-20. The contract will pay $650,000 at the NHL level or $70,000 at the American Hockey League (AHL) level in 2018-19, with a $100,000 guarantee. In 2019-20, the contract will pay $700,000.

“Lucas has continued to show his offensive upside in the American League, where he was a point-per-game player last season,” said Waddell. “We expect him to continue to work to become a regular contributor on the NHL level.”

Wallmark, 22, scored one goal in 11 games with Carolina in 2017-18. The Umea, Sweden, native spent the majority of the season with Charlotte (AHL), where he led the team in scoring with 55 points (17g, 38a) in 45 games. Wallmark led the AHL in points per game last season (1.22, min. 10 games played) and registered 19 multi-point games. The 6’0”, 176-pound forward added five points (3g, 2a) in eight playoff games with the Checkers.

Drafted by the Hurricanes in the fourth round, 97th overall, in the 2014 NHL Draft, Wallmark has appeared in 19 career NHL games with Carolina, posting three points (1g, 2a). In two AHL seasons, he has recorded 101 points (41g, 60a) in 112 career games with Charlotte.
