Cary native, star swimmer Claire Curzan wins another medal and sets American record in backstroke

Olympic medalist swimmer and Cary native Claire Curzan won the bronze medal in the 100-meter backstroke at the FINA World Championships on Wednesday.
She also set an American record in the 50-meter backstroke.
Curzan graduated from Cardinal Gibbons High School and is a student at Stanford University.
At the Tokyo Olympic games in 2021, she won a silver medal for her participation in the 4x100 women's medley.
Earlier this year, Curzan was named Female Athlete of the Year at HighSchoolOT Honors and USA Today High School Girls Athlete of the Year.
Curzan is also the most decorated girls swimmer in N.C. High School Athletic Association history.
The 19th FINA World Championships, a world swimming competition, were held in Budapest this year.
