Cary, N.C. — Olympic silver-medalist and Cary native Claire Curzan was awarded the title of USA Today High School Girls Athlete of the Year.
A ceremony hosted by NFL legens Vernon Davis and Rob Gronkowski was held Sunday night where the winners were announced.
However, Gronkowski surprised Curzan earlier in the week telling her she had won in a video chat.
Curzan was also named Girls Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Year at the ceremony.
At the Tokyo Olympic games, Curzan won a silver medal for her participation in the 4x100 women's medley.
Just last month Curzan was named the Female Athlete of the Year at HighSchoolOT Honors.
Curzan is the most decorated girls swimmer in N.C. High School Athletic Association history.
She recently graduated from Cardinal Gibbons High School and will attend Stanford in the fall where her swimming career will continue.
