New Orleans — The common friendly wager between government officials before a championship game is on for Monday night's showdown in New Orleans.
North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper and Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly have made a bet, putting some of their respective state's finest culinary offerings on the line.
Should UNC win, Cooper will receive steaks. If Kansas wins, Kelly will get some Carolina-style barbecue from Wilber's Barbecue in Goldsboro. Both are in The Big Easy to attend tonight's game.
Gov. Cooper graduated from UNC and is a Nashville (NC) native. He'll be hoping the Tar Heels can reverse a stretch of bad luck against the Jayhawks, who eliminated UNC from the NCAA Tournament in 2008, 2012 and 2013.
UNC is coming off an emotionally-charged 81-77 win over bitter rival Duke in the national semifinal. Kansas won comfortably against Villanova 81-65 in the first game on Saturday.
Tip-off is scheduled for 9:20.
