Morehead City, N.C. — Basketball legend Michael Jordan’s “Catch 23” team is on the water in the 64th annual Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament.
On Monday, "Catch 23" caught and released a pair of blue marlins at 12:51 p.m and 2:45 p.m.
This marks the third consecutive year “Catch 23” is participating in the event. Jordan’s boat is an 80-foot Viking.
Monday evening, MJ returned to shore with a 24-pound mahi-mahi that he reeled in himself.
At the time his fish was weighed, it was the heaviest dolphin caught.
Other boats have since brought in heavier ones, placing Jordan's catch in sixth place.
But knowing Jordan, his competitive juices are flowing while fishing in his home state.
Two hundred forty-six of the 266 boats registered are competing on Monday, which is the first of six days of fishing.
The tournament announced this year's purse will be for a record $5,858,875.
Last year, Jordan’s crew caught a 25-pound dolphin fish. In 2020, the “Catch 23” team reeled in a 442-pound big blue marlin.
