always had a soft spot for Cleveland (the city) I like the Browns, Indians, Cleveland fans are the best- they have indured some tough time but hang in there. It's a real blue collar city city.

Agree, Max. Some people need something to complain about. The Cleveland Browns ARE offensive - not their name - their organization, lol. What a dumpster fire mess trading for Watson. I was hoping he'd miss the entire year. No respect for that organization at all.

most Native American don't have a problem with the name-- there is a group of people in our society that are always looking for a problem or something to complain about, sour wuss is what always called them. I can't grasp the team anymore, just like the Cleveland Indians its not the same team.-- what is next the Cleveland Browns are offensive--I have always thought of Braves, Redskins, Indians, the names were to honor the American Indian-- it's a beaching society now a days always find something to whine- that is my rant for today---my two cents--penny for you thoughts

Yeah, Max, a lot of people say it will always be the "Redskins" to them. I can understand some Native Americans may have a problem with the name, but really don't get why baseball had to insist the Cleveland Indians change their name. Hope the Atlanta Braves can keep their name.

Max - what NFL team do you pull for? I'm a Panthers fan, but since Rhule has been the HC, things in Charlotte have gone downhill (not that they weren't already heading there).
Yeah - expansion talk seems to have calmed down for now. We're getting close to kickoff!

Preseason is ok but I'm gonna take them one at a time, once first game is played preseason is gone. Actually the product on the field has made it more convenient not to watch, all the talk about expansion has died down, lots of sports columnist unknown and well known were ramping up these rumors but Phillips better start being more pro-active.

  • StunGunn Aug 8, 2022

Max - did you see State's preseason ranking - #13 - highest ever in school history.

I don't trust the SEC or B1G either, even if they're not looking for other schools to grab. College sports aren't what they used to be, and they never will be again.

Are you still avoiding the NFL? If anything, that's gotten worse as well.

I would not trust Big 10 or SEC, they have proven they are 2 Face. The Pac 12 or Big 12 are on edge and will double cross anyone for survival, ACC better be pro active I would be courting 6 -8 teams.

Agree about Philips, Max. Guy is boring to listen to. May be a good guy, but no personality.

I can almost taste kick-off, Max! Can't wait for football. And cooler weather!

Glad the ACC did away with divisions. Next year, and going forward, the two best teams can compete for the conference crown.

About 4 1/2 weeks till football, lots of unanswered questions yet, can't wait for the opening kick.

Phillips doesn't impress me as brightest bulb in the shop, just bright enough to get by. Pac 12 and ACC were duped by big 10, they need to merge or ACC need to pick up teams out of Big 12. To many outlets reporting hearsay and rumors.

I think Jim Philips made a mistake as well by not voting to expand the playoffs, which would have guaranteed the ACC a seat at the table. He forms this "alliance" with the B1G, then the B1G turns around and expands.
I agree about ND. No half in half out. Either you're in or out: no sticking your big toe in the water to see if it's warm enough to go all in the pool. I heard that ND would have been better off financially if they joined the ACC, but they want to have their cake and eat it too. The ACC doesn't need ND to survive.

I had heard that ACC had been approached by NBC, I wish they move away from ESPN and to a new outlet, ESPN pick and chooses ACC games they want to show E-1 E-2 and E-U then let's ACC net have choice, lots ESPN programs over lap badly- if ACC worked a deal with NBC N.D may be enticed to join, Swofford made a bad decision, giving N.D. partial membership, never should get any ACC bowl bids until they are a full member. ACC should try to get Okla St and WVU if N.D balks then if other conferences inclination to grow then go for K-state, KU, Texas Tech Baylor

I had forgotten about the Legislature and how it sticks its nose into sports. I don't think politics and sports should intersect, but at least it's one more thing that could possible to keep the Big Four together, even if those teams wouldn't be blocked from joining another conference. Talk seems to have cooled a bit about the urgency of the ACC dissolving overnight. Now the talk is five years. A lot can happen in five years. I still don't like the power of the B1G and the SEC. Jim Phillips missed the opportunity for the ACC to get a seat at the table of expanded playoffs.

remember back when Legislation for making NCSU and UNC play ECU, if the Has monies involved, they will control.

Max - the NC Legislature has control of what conference UNC and State play in? I had no idea. Very interesting.

  • Maxwell Silver III Jul 15, 2022

All this conference is the brainchild of ESPN, they want complete control of major sports especially FB, N.C. legislative branches would not allow either State or UNC to move without the other, State is more suited to SEC, UNC the big 10, they would have a binding agreement they won't amend scheduled game between the two.

Max - I think the ACC is tied to their deal with ESPN until 2034/2035. Deals can always be broken, but at what cost. I really hate the idea of a super conference. I was OK with ACC expansion, but to have two super conferences destroys so much history and tradition..

With a 500 million out Pocket to leave, may be negotiable but will be to hefty to leave, SEC says their happy at 16, I think big 10 is too. ACC should add two teams I say go for Okla. St and WVU. Be a great 16 team league, get out of ESPN deal, make a deal with NBC or Fox, ACC network is just a ESPN stepchild, a channel where they deposit ACC games they could care less about. 99% of the rumors of conferences realigning are media or fan generated. It's time to get on with 2022 FB season

Was just thinking of starting a thread about this Max. The talking heads, both local and national are saying the ACC's days are numbered, maybe in years, but numbered. I hate the thought of the ACC disbanding. I thought the Grant of Rights provided enough protection against ACC teams jumping to other conferences. It looks like it may discourage it, but not prevent it. All sorts of local talk about Duke and Carolina going to the SEC. I can't imagine that and hope it doesn't happen. They're saying NC State might be left out in the cold. Hope that's not the case. To think the Big Four will part ways is sad. Nationally, some are saying there will be two major conferences and then the insignificant rest: SEC and B1G will rule the land. . The NIL and Transfer Portal have been damaging enough to college sports, and when teams hire a GM, well, it's no longer amateur with student athletes. I'll watch the Pro teams on Sunday, not Saturday. $$$ rules all. Just win, baby.
