Defending champions blew away the rest of the field in the N.C. High School Athletic Association 2A individual girls tennis championships.

In singles, senior Olivia Hankinson of Research Triangle capped off her career with a second singles title, defeating Greene Central's Anna Katherine Medlin 6-1, 6-0 in the final.

Hankinson was a semifinalist in 1A singles as a sophomore, and also has a 1A doubles title in her career. The closest anyone came to stopping her this year was a 6-1, 6-1 second-round match.

Also recording a second straight title was the doubles team of Eliza Perry and Ramsey Ross from Hendersonville. Like Hankinson, they too rolled to a championship, going 6-0, 6-0 in every round but the second. In the championship, they stopped Salisbury's sister pairing of Millie and Cora Wymbs. Millie had teamed up with Abby Campion to win the 2021 2A doubles title.

Perry graduates with three doubles titles to her credit, having teamed up with her older sister McCollough in 2020. Hendersonville has now won six doubles titles in school history, which is tied for second-most in the state.

The first and second rounds of the NCHSAA 2A individual championships were played Friday, and semifinals and finals were Saturday at the Ting Park in Holly Springs.

In singles, all four regional champs made it to the semis: Medlin (2A East), Hankinson (2A Mideast), Community School of Davidson's Jadan Rounds (2A West) and North Surry's Julia Pedraza (2A Midwest).

That was not the case in doubles, where the Hendersonville pair of Ross and Perry met teammates Raleigh Prichard and Reese Redden in the semifinals. Princhard and Reese knocked out 2A East regional champions Rylee Greene and Aubree Smith in the first round. On the other side of the bracket, Salisbury's Wymbs sisters were the 2A Midwest champs and edged 2A Mideast champions Katherine Southern and Victoria Zhou in three sets in the semis.
