Union Pines rolls to 3A wrestling tournament title; Cape Fear's Samuel Aponte wins MOW
Union Pines put together a dominant performance in the N.C. High School Athletic Association 3A wrestling tournament team championship, outpacing runner-up Eastern Guilford by 44.5 points.
The Vikings had eight state placers and two champions en route to the title on Saturday at the Greensboro Coliseum.
The Most Outstanding Wrestler award went to three-time state champion Samuel Aponte of Cape Fear.
