Middle Creek, even without its best player, came out on top of the N.C. High School Athletic Association 4A volleyball championship — more than enough reason to take home the No. 1 spot in the final HighSchoolOT statewide top 25 rankings.

Previous final rankings

Green Hope, the 4A East runner-up to Middle Creek, was second, followed by fellow 4A East team Chapel Hill in third. Kings Mountain, the 3A champ, was fourth followed by Cardinal Gibbons in fifth.

North Iredell, last year's No. 1 team, was 15th.

Brevard, the 2A champ, was seventh and 1A champ Polk County was 17th. N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association state champs North Raleigh Christian (4A), GRACE Christian of Raleigh (3A), Davidson Day (2A), and Albemarle School (1A) were unranked statewide but did make their respective area code rankings.

In total, 15 teams from the preseason top 25 made the final statewide rankings, with No. 7 Brevard the highest-ranked team who was unranked at the outset. The Mustangs were the preseason No. 3 team.

The full rankings — a statewide Top 25 and Top 15 rankings for each of the state’s six area codes — are below.

The all-state team will be released next week.
