Girls Soccer Rankings: Familiar names are back in the statewide top 25; five join area code top 15s

Ardrey Kell, Hoggard, and South Mecklenburg are no strangers to the HighSchoolOT statewide 25 girls soccer rankings — but they are new to it this week.

The top six remained the same from a week ago, then there were major changes after that.

Jacksonville lost to Hoggard, moving the Cardinals down from seventh to 21st and inserting the Vikings back after three weeks away. Heritage lost twice, moving the Huskies from eighth to 22nd. Apex Friendship and West Forsyth each cracked the top 10. Kell, South Meck, and Hoggard went from unranked to spots 16-18 while Covenant Day, North Raleigh Christian, and Asheville fell out.

There were five new teams in the area code top 15s — including South Meck.

Rankings reminders:

• Rankings are updated weekly and released on every Monday
• All high schools in the state of North Carolina, excluding athletic training academies, are eligible for the statewide top 25
• There is a separate top 15 for the state's six area codes that is also updated weekly
• Rankings are paused during the N.C. High School Athletic Association playoffs
• Final rankings are released the week after the state championships
