Girls Soccer Rankings: Six new teams join statewide rankings; nine join area code top 15s

There are a whopping six new teams in this week's HighSchoolOT statewide 25 girls soccer rankings.

After an upset loss by Cox Mill to Mooresville, there was a shake-up in the 704 area code top 15 which started a domino effect for the statewide top 25.

Sun Valley, Pine Lake Prep, Topsail, Hibriten, Hickory, and Cardinal Gibbons are in — Gibbons and Pine Lake Prep were ranked earlier this season.

Cox Mill, Marvin Ridge, Ardrey Kell, Charlotte Catholic, Hoggard, and South Mecklenburg all fell out of this week's rankings.

Rankings reminders:

• Rankings are updated weekly and released on every Monday
• All high schools in the state of North Carolina, excluding athletic training academies, are eligible for the statewide top 25
• There is a separate top 15 for the state's six area codes that is also updated weekly
• Rankings are paused during the N.C. High School Athletic Association playoffs
• Final rankings are released the week after the state championships
