Greenfield up, Greensboro Day down.

Those are two of the biggest changes to the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association's classifications this season.

Unlike the N.C. High School Athletic Association, which has one realignment every four years with appeals taking place after two, NCISAA classes and conferences can change from year-to-year.

Greenfield, a powerhouse in 1A sports — most notably boys basketball, where Chicago Bulls star Coby White set records — is now a 2A school.

Greensboro Day, whose most notable sport is also boys basketball — head coach Freddy Johnson has more than 1,100 wins — falls from the 4A ranks into 3A.

Other changes in classification include Wake Christian sliding from 4A to 3A, Carolina Day dropping from 3A to 2A, John Paul II moving up from 2A to 3A, and Grace Christian of Sanford moving up from 1A to 2A. Also, both schools with the Thales Academy moniker — the Titans from Apex and the Knights of Rolesville — moved up to 3A.

There were a few changes to conferences in the eastern half of the state, with the formation of a Capital City Conference taking three of the former members of the Eastern Plains Independent Conference — Cary Christian (3A), GRACE Christian of Raleigh (3A), and St. David's (3A) — and combining them with Wake Christian (3A) and Trinity Academy of Raleigh (2A).

The Raleigh Area Athletic 2A Conference lost Trinity Academy but gains Grace Christian of Sanford.

Arendell Parrott (3A), a former member of the EPIC, and Epiphany School join the Coastal Plains Independent, which also features John Paul II (3A), Greenfield School (2A), Wayne Christian (2A), and Wayne Country Day (2A).

Cape Fear Christian is no longer in the Sandhills Conference, but replaces Grace Christian of Sanford in the Mid-Carolina 1A Conference.

One last change involves Southside Christian of Clayton and Liberty Christian of Richlands joining the N.C. Christian Schools Association.
