If facing an undefeated team peaking at the right time is a scary proposition, then the Chatham Central softball is pretty scary team.

The Bears, ranked 11th in the latest statewide HighSchoolOT rankings, scored more runs on Wednesday than they had in any game this year en route to a 26-0 walloping of county foe Seaforth.

Thanks to 20 hits and seven walks, the Bears pushed across four runs in the first, five in the second, three in the third, eight in the fourth, and six in the fifth.

Meanwhile, Bears pitcher Cassie McKeithan —who is Chatham Central's No. 2 pitcher behind Mary Gaines — scattered six hits and struck out 10 of the 22 batters she faced.

Gaines and Jaylee Williams, a senior shortstop, led the way at the plate. Williams went 3-for-5 with four stolen bases (including stealing home during a rundown in the first inning), one double and one homer, scoring five runs on her own. Gaines went 3-for-3 with four RBIs, including one double.

Caleigh Warf and McKeithan also had three hits. Ashlynn Humphries and Emma Burke also had three RBIs.

Shelby Holder, Sydney Sellars, and Katherine Gaines each had one RBI apiece.
