"A lot of it is just prioritizing what really needs to get done," Sarah Prosser said as she lined up a softball on a tee. "Try to plan it out so that everything works out in the end."

Things are working well so far for the Cleveland High School senior. She's the starting second baseman for the softball team and a tone setter at the plate.

"If you're asking for a softball player to hit at the top of the lineup," Cleveland softball coach Jason Morris said. "You'd probably draw Sarah Prosser."

Prosser also runs track and cross country at Cleveland. She's equally dedicated to her school work and helping out in the community. She's the secretary of the National Honors Society and is involved with student council.

"We do a lot around the community and around the school just trying to involve the community and help out," Prosser said.

One of the most rewarding things she's done is volunteer as an assistant softball coach for the Greater Cleveland Athletic Association.

"That's where I grew up playing softball," Prosser said. "It was something special to help those girls out in the way I was helped out when I was younger."

Prosser's hard work has been rewarded in the form of a full academic scholarship to Virginia Wesleyan University where she will also play softball.

"The softball program there is very good," Prosser said. "I have always wanted to go to a school to play softball that it's going to be highly competitive and we are going to be winning ball games."

She has one season at Cleveland left and will be remembered for the work ethic that earned her the Tom Suiter Extra Effort Award long after she leaves.

"I hope I leave good memories when I leave," Prosser said. "Something for little kids to look up to. To want to reach the same goals that I have and something to look forward to."
