Raleigh, N.C. — Wide receiver Noah Rogers is returning to the Triangle.
After a season at Ohio State, the former Rolesville High star will be suiting up at Carter-Finley Stadium this fall after his commitment to NC State on Thursday. Rogers confirmed the move in a text message to WRAL News.
Rogers announced he was entering the transfer portal on Monday, days after the Buckeyes finished their season with a 14-3 loss to Missouri in the Cotton Bowl.
Rogers' arrival marks another big get for coach Dave Doeren as he enters his 12th season at NC State. Rogers was one of the top-ranked players in the state in his high school days. Several recruiting services had Rogers listed as a 5-star recruit.
Rogers dressed in two games for the Buckeyes, but did not catch a pass in 2023.
The move bolsters NC State's receiving core, which figures to be a promising unit with the return of KC Concepcion.
Quarterback Grayson McCall transferred to NC State in December after playing at Coastal Carolina. McCall, a North Carolina native, was Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year three times.
NC State has been active in the transfer portal, a point of emphasis after the program was caught off guard by it last season.
"We felt completely unprepared for a lot of the things that happened," Doeren said. "Guys go to the portal. In a lot of cases, when they become legal to recruit, they've already got their top three schools."
So the program's personnel department identified players that could enter the portal and had could have interest in the Wolfpack.
"How are they doing out there?" Doeren said. "If they went in, would they be guys that we would consider? So that if that happens, we're sitting there ready instead of, 'Oh my gosh, this guy went in?' We did a lot of background for the 'what ifs' in that office."
NC State currently ranks No. 5 in On3's ranking of transfer classes.
Rogers committed to Ohio State in June of 2022. He was a major target for NC State and North Carolina at the time, but picked the Buckeyes over the in-state schools and football powers such as Clemson and Florida State. As a high school junior in 2021, Rogers caught 70 passes for 1,432 yards and 22 touchdowns.
NC State also landed commitments from former local prep stars in wide receiver Wesley Grimes (Wake Forest) and defensive back Tamarcus Cooley (Maryland).
