Farmville Central's Joyner, McDaniel complete HS careers together at East-West game

Farmville Central's Amiya Joyner and Journee McDaniel wrapped up their Jaguar careers together in March, but they got one more chance to play together at this year's NCCA East-West All-Star game.

Emotions were running high after the East took a close loss to the West, but the experience was not lost on either Jaguar.

"It's very cool, our last time playing together," Joyner said. "Last high school game."

"Very memorable," McDaniel added. "It was a good experience to be out here and play in front of all these people and have all this support, so it was really good to have this for the last ride."

The East saw an early fourth quarter lead disappear as both squads turned challenging first halves into high-level second halves.

Joyner finished the game with 6 points and 10 rebounds while McDaniel scored 8 points and grabbed 7 boards.

"They played more aggressively and like they wanted it more," Joyner said of the loss.

With these events, though, it's the experience that matters more than the results, and Joyner and McDaniel delivered plenty of results in their time in black and gold.

The two led their team to the state championship game as seniors and did the same as juniors.

As a sophomore, Joyner was part of the team that was named as co-state champion after the title game was canceled due to the onset of the pandemic.

Both players etched their names into the storied basketball history at Farmville Central, and the finality of it all was apparent to both Monday.

"I'll always remember her being a good teammate and friend," McDaniel said of Joyner.

"Same thing for her," Joyner said with a smile and laugh. "My buddy, my dog Journee. We're growing up."
